Bière de Chartres
Beer was made in Chartres as early as 1885 by the Hornaing brewery, a model venture employing more than 100 workers. After a period of prosperity, the brewery closed its doors in 1953. Through the initiative of Isabelle and Benoît Pasquier, the brand "Bière de Chartres" was relaunched in 1999. It is brewed from wheat grown in Beauce. The new recipe combines barley malt, three kinds of hops, yeast and water, ingredients common to all beers, but it also contains "Courtot" wheat from Beauce. The brew is then preserved for four months in an aging cellar before it is bottled. In only a few years, Bière de Chartres has found its place on the tables of many Chartres and Michelin-starred Parisian restaurants.
Eurélienne
A young farmer from Beauce, Vincent Crosnier is creating pale, blonde and red (and soon dark) beers using grains from his cereal farm. Every week, 200 gallons of the distinctive beer are brewed and bottled at his independent brewery.
