Trying local food is one of the joys of travel! Here in Eure et Loir, local producers take pride in their regional specialities, using recipes passed down through the years and only the very best ingredients. If you’re a foodie, you’ll find plenty of options to feast on artisanal, organic, home-made food that will get your taste buds tingling!

Food for thought

Holidays in France are special for all of those who love to eat and cook local food. We are lucky Eure et Loir is home to some of France’s richest farmlands which produce an abundance of fresh seasonal food and where cattle roam and graze freely. Be prepared for culinary experiences and luxury of a different kind: quality time eating quality food together. The essence of country life.

produits locaux

Apples, pears and farm produce

Nothing is easier than identifying regional produce thanks to the “Terre d'Eure-et-Loir” label on food which guarantees a short and transparent supply chain. Alternatively, you can shop directly at producers’ markets or at farm shops like the Ferme du Verger for prime, locally sourced, seasonal and homemade produce. You can even pick your own apples, strawberries and cherries from the fields and orchards (and sample some along the way -within reason). Such a great way for children to have a hands-on experience of nature in all its summer bounty.

Eat local in the Perche

If you are lucky enough to stay in some small towns of Eure et Loir, you’ll soon find out how much we love food here, but not just as a pleasure of the senses. We enjoy cooking and eating together because to us, food means conviviality and friendship. A great place to experience our hospitality is the gîte la Tour d'Aligre. You’ll start diner with a local aperitif before cooking your 100% locally-sourced meal with the findings of the day…and expert guidance. Yummy!
