Ah! The smell of lavender wafting in a summer breeze, the sun-drenched countryside bursting with charm and historic attractions, the enchanting medieval towns and the colourful open-air markets could make you believe you are in Provence. Eure et Loir surprises us yet again! It is a region full of sensory romance, rewarding travelers with its breathtaking vistas, mouthwatering cuisine, and small-town tranquility.

Wade through a rolling sea of purple around la Ferté-Villeneuil (at only 1½ hours from Paris), a befitting nod to France’s Provençal countryside. The seemingly endless stretch of lavender fields in full bloom makes this splash of colour very "Instagram-worthy" indeed. As the sun slides down the sky, find a green patch of grass to sit and watch the changing colours of a sunset on the Loir Valley that’s as magical as in Valensole in South of France. A once in a lifetime experience! Please be careful not to damage these beautiful fields and leave them as you found them.
Dolce farniente and paddleboarding
Spend a whole day practicing the beautiful Italian concept of dolce farniente, literally the essence of doing nothing and enjoying it. Sunbathing, gliding on a stand-up-paddle board, taking a little dip in the water, canoeing peacefully is where dolce farniente is at its best, where all that matters is living the moment. We are lucky enough to have amazing landscapes and plenty of water-based activities at the azure blue lake of Brou, equipped with a leisure centre that ensures a real holiday atmosphere. A variety of water sports are available here, swimming and stand-up paddle boarding. On Wednesday mornings, head to the producer’s market in Brou to gather some regional produce in order to roll out a picnic blanket by the lake and treat your taste buds. La dolce vita “Eure et Loir style” starts here!
A villa by the water
The Place Saint Martin is a lifestyle in itself. Nestled in an enchanting setting, this magnificent house by the river Loir is a homely guesthouse for couples, families, friends and colleagues who wish to get together to enjoy outdoor activities and acres of green to rest and relax. Hosted by the delightful owners Laurence and Benoît, you will be staying in an individually designed bedroom and waking up to a hearty breakfast the next day. Take advantage of the facilities to explore the area from the water: a boat trip on the river Loir or a canoe ride provided by the Châteaudun Canoe Club. An idyllic retreat awaits.
